LEARN-WALKING
PACKAGES: WE TRAIN YOUR DOG WHILE
EXERCISING THEM!*
While training a dog to heel, it is important that the training
techniques used during the dog's daily walks are consistant
during the
learning process, and practiced frequently. This is not always
something the owner can accomplish
on their own due to work schedules or physical limitations.
Higher
Ground Dog Training introduces Learn-walking! We will take your dog on
his or her walks, and provide the reinforcement training and
exercise
your dog needs to become a relaxed and enjoyable walking partner,
regardless of how commited they seem to be to pulling!
When adding our Learn-walking package, your dog's training will
progress dramatically!
During
these sessions, your dog will learn:
- the
"heel" cue.
- to
sit politely while the leash is attached and while the door is
being
opened.

- to
walk calmly next to you, even when other
dogs or people approach.
- to
sit by your side when you stop walking.
- a
release cue will also be taught to your dog so that it is clear when
sniffing, pottying and playing is acceptable to you.
And, as
always, we will make training enjoyable for your dog!

LEASHED
CONTROL Walks
and socialization designed specifically for dogs with aggression or
reactivity issues in public settings.
Frequently, we encounter
owners who have dog that display some form of aggression to people or
other dogs or animals.
It is an emotional and traumatic event for all involved.
As a result, many people will avoid all contact with the outside world
while with their dogs.
This is understandable as it can often be scary, embarrassing, or
flat-out dangerous. However, this isolation is often counter-productive
and deprives both the owner(s) and the dog of a rich life together.
Higher
Ground Dog Training's head trainer, Amber S. Morgain, is a specialist
in dog aggression and reactivity issues. She understands that many
people are initially unwilling or unable to do some of the work
involved in reintroducing their dogs to society.
This is where our Leashed Control option comes into play. Amber
will take your dog on walks in controlled environments, utilizing
proven and highly effective counter-conditioning and desensitization
techniques.
At all times, she will be focused on extending the dog's comfort zone
around triggers, with safety as a top priority.
It has been Amber's experience that once owners are able to see
improvement in their dogs behavior, they are then able to increase
their confidence in their dog's rehabillitation as well.
Included
with these sessions are documentation of the work involved as well as
video, safely showing the techniques used as well as demonstraing
successful encounters that were previously unthinkable.
The
goal of these sessions is to ultimately and gradually transfer the
leash to the owner, and allow them to begin safely and confidently
begin a new life with their companions.
***Because
aggression/reactivity issues are potentially serious, this option
requires a full training plan that involves both the owner and the
trainer, a detailed history and evaluation. A minimum of one private
session is required, and more may be needed at the trainer's discretion
before utilizing this option.***
This
option is not intended to replace the client's involvment in the
rehabilitation of their dog (which is vital), instead it is designed to
supplement it.
